One of the things i was fortunate enough to learn early on when i first began to consciously embark upon the Spiritual Path was the importance of patience and persistence. I discovered that both qualities were integral to not only walking the path but to complete the process towards Self Realization and Liberation of the mind.
Sometimes people may get the idea in their mind that the Spiritual process will go on forever and ever, and that engaging in spiritual practice is a life long pursuit, but it doesn’t have to be that way, there is an end in sight, an end that many of the ancient and modern Self Realized masters have seen. When this end comes and the mind comes into alignment with Pure God Consciousness, all that is left is peace, freedom and relief.
It is the end of internal suffering and the end of the karmic mind of life-death-rebirth, but before this can happen there must be a desireless effort to do the right things that will result in its fruition. This will take much patience and much persistence.
Patience is not just a virtue as they say, but also a fundamental quality if one wishes to succeed at anything including the completion of the Spiritual Process. Anyone that has been successful at anything knows the importance of such a quality, as often our journey to success in anything we do can be a challenging one littered with hurdles and pitfalls. Without patience we often become frustrated, angry and can tend to either rush things or quit altogether.
‘where attention goes energy flows’
Our destiny is in our hands and our hands alone, this is how powerful we are when we tap into the core of our existence which is one with universal god consciousness. When we put our energies in a certain direction unwaveringly whilst at the same time doing the right things for results in our chosen area, we will eventually be guaranteed success. The Spiritual Path is no different.
If we wish to be successful along the Spiritual Path then we must do the right things and work with the right methods for this to happen, otherwise our efforts will be unfruitful and all that will happen is that we end up either going round and round in circles or that we stagnate (i will speak about this in future articles). If we wish to become a championship footballer but yet train in the techniques and methods of tennis, then we will never get where we really want to go.
Before we know what the right methods are we must first understand what it is we are actually looking to achieve and if this lines up with the ultimate goal of all spiritual paths. Before we set off on the journey we must have some idea of the destination otherwise we will become lost in many cul-de-sacs, this is exactly why it is important to have a guide that can lead you through the terrain, this can be a guru, book, video or even the wisdom of life experiences themselves.
Once you are on the right path and you are doing the right things that need to be done to get to your destination, patience is key. Challenges will come and are actually needed so that you can move to your destination more quickly. The friction of a challenge can become your greatest lesson and propel you forward as it helps to highlight the internal blocks that are slowing you down towards your destination. The quicker you become aware of your blockages the quicker you can look to transcend them and move more swiftly towards Spiritual Freedom.
Be patient with yourself and be patient with life. Life wants you to succeed not fail, as life is you and you are life itself, and so your success is its success, the universe awakens and experiences itself through each one of us. Patience will ensure that you relax and allow life to take its natural course while you yourself continue to do the right things towards liberation.
When you take a magnifying glass and align it with the sun whilst directing it at a leaf, it takes some ‘time’ and ‘force’ of the sun before the leaf will give in and succumb to the pressure. This is like life, one must use the force of their attention, lining things up in the right way, and continue to take the time with persistence before life will give in to the pressure of your will.
The quicker a person becomes disciplined, does the right things and continues with those things consistently, the quicker you will reach the culmination of the Spiritual Process towards Self Realization and Liberation of the mind.
In the beginning patience and persistence with the right Spiritual Practices is key. If you are inconsistent with your practice, then your results will be inconsistent, but if you are consistent with your practice, then you will gain consistent results. Couldn’t really be any more simpler than that don’t you think?
Whatever you put your will and effort towards will eventually be a success, it may take some time, but stick with it and you will see the results. If you really and truly want to discover your true dimension of freedom, then be patient and persistent and keep moving forward, the ice will eventually break!
Enjoy the Ride
